Mary Clare Alfonsi

December 19, 1927 — May 27, 2018

Mary Clare Alfonsi, 90 of Pottsville, entered into eternal peace on Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill East Norwegian St.

She was born December 19, 1927 at home in Pottsville, a daughter of the late John Jr., and Anna Marrah McGovern.

She attended Pottsville Schools and was employed by the former Philip Van Heusen of Pottsville as a seamstress until she started a family with the love of her life, Andy.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville and a former member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.

Clare loved life. She enjoyed traveling and was always ready for a road trip! She enjoyed watching country and western movies and listening to Johnny Cash and polkas. She especially loved her daughters, her grandchildren, great-grandson and her sister, Jane who was her best friend.

She was always happy to go shopping, attending shows and eating out. Clare never had a problem eating dessert first. Any time of the day was perfect time for ice cream and M&M’s!

Her life revolved around her family. Her happiest times were spent at family gatherings. She will be remembered for her infectious smile, spoiling her grandchildren, and her gentle happy-go-lucky nature. As a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she provided unconditional love and support.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alesandro “Andy” Alfronsi, on January 7, 2016; infant son Brian in 1965; a sister Catherine June Klema; a brother, John McGovern. Surviving are two daughters, Justina Majestic and her husband Chuck, Pottsville and Patty Semanchik and her husband Atty. Mark, Frackville; six grandchildren, Mark, Steven, Patrick and his wife Brooke, Daniel and Christina Semanchik, and Kelly Majestic Eales and her husband Rodger; one great-grandson Otto Eales; a sister, Jane McGovern Bobinis, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.
