Jerome Clyde Lowthert, 85 of Pottsville, died Thursday at the home of his daughter Cindy.
He was born September 27, 1932 in Tamaqua, son of the late William Sr., and Bertha Frantz Lowthert.
He was a 1951 graduate of Pottsville High School.
Prior to retiring he was a truck driver for Lehigh Valley Dairy.
Clyde was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, a member of the Schuylkill County Relay Committee and founding member of the Pottsville Area Youth Track and Field.
Clyde was inducted to the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and also the Pottsville High School All Sports Hall of Fame, for being a 1950 Cross Country State Champion and a 1951 State Champion in the 880 yard run.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joan E. Lightcap Lowthert on March 13, 2018; 4 infant great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Ray Lowthert, William Lowthert, Jr.; and a sister Kitty Lowthert Schafer. Surviving are 6 children, Cheryl Ruch and her husband Jack, Pottsville; Clyde Lowthert and his wife Dorrie, Auburn; Cathy Stank, and her husband Terry, Lake Wynonah; Cindy McGeever and her husband Patrick, Pottsville; Craig Lowthert and his wife Patricia, Port Carbon; Carole Coyle and her husband, Michael Pottsville; 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, a sister, Mary Young, Schuylkill Haven, and a brother, James Lowthert, Minersville; Nieces and Nephews.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Clyde will be held Saturday at 11AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, with Rev. Chris Rothharpt officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10AM until time of services. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contribution made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch St. Pottsville PA, 17901. Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Garden on the grounds of the church.
Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.
