Jean M. Savary, 88 of Allentown, formerly of Pottsville, died Friday morning at home.
She was born April 15, 1929 in Pottsville daughter of the late Robert and Thelma Crosland Runkle.
She was a 1947 Graduate of Pottsville High School.
She worked for the former Bell Telephone and Union Bank and Trust Pottsville.
Jean was a member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Allentown where she volunteered at the school and church rectory for over 15 years.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mark T. Savary; Varney twin girls; 2 brothers, Francis Glenn and Thomas Runkle: Surviving are her husband of 67 years Paul Savary, Allentown; a daughter, Deborah S. Varney and her husband Doug; a son, Charles P. Savary, Allentown 4 grandchildren, Derek Varney and his wife Erin; Dennille Schuler and her husband Austin; Damara Ritchey and her husband Blake; Deanna Varney: 6 great-grandchildren, Aidan, Evan, Calley, Alaina, Brennan, Gwyneth: a sister, Dorothy Elison: Nieces and Nephews.
Jean was a good Christian woman who loved life and was devoted to her family. She was strong, sweet, and smart, and was always smiling and optimistic. Jean, affectionately called Nanny by her grandchildren will be greatly missed by many. We picture Jean, Paul's lucky charm, dancing now in heaven.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11A.M. Wednesday at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave, Allentown. Family and friends are invited to call from 10A.M. until the time of mass. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions to support dementia research made to The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation 110 East 42nd Street, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10017 . Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Allentown.
