Irvin A. McKenzie
August 13, 1930 — January 28, 2018
On Sunday, January 27, Irvin Aurand McKenzie, 87 of Pottsville went home to be with the Lord and his loving wife while surrounded by the family he raise and cared for so dearly.
Born under the kitchen table of his childhood home on Pierce St., on August 13, 1930 he was the first son of the late Irvin Sylvester and Thelma Wertz McKenzie.
Irvin was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He toured the world for three years on the USS Glennon where he worked as a maintenance man on heavy artillery and helped prepare food in the galley for all the men at night.
Irvin attended Pottsville High School and worked many jobs throughout his life including truck driving, bartending, and even delivered medication for Towne Drugs in Pottsville until his retirement.
He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, Pottsville, where he was very active in the Men’s Sunday School class until their disbandment.
Irvin was a charitable donator and gave greatly to organizations including the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Veteran’s Association of America.
During his spare time he enjoyed being with his grandchildren, working on his home and the homes of others free of charge, tending to his large garden, and kept a fish pond where he cared for all sorts of animals including frogs and turtles.
He was preceded in death by his darling devoted wife of 61 years wife, Edna Mae McKenzie, on July 19th, 2009 a granddaughter, Angel Anne Huffman, 2 Brothers, Robert McKenzie, 2002; and William McKenzie, 2007: Surviving are three loving daughters, Kimberly Ann McKenzie Huffman and her husband Charles, Pottsville; Karen Lou McKenzie Maurer, and her husband, Eric, Pottsville; Cheryl Ann McKenzie Fidler and her husband Robert, Williamsport; six granddaughters, Amanda, Kristi, Bethany, Erica, Stephanie, and Adrienne; three grandsons, Tommy, Brett, and Joel, many great-grandchildren, including Phaedra, Jacob, Caysin, Kai, Dylan and many, many more whom he loved very much.
Service of Remembrance will be held Sunday at 2PM from Evangelical United Methodist Church, Pottsville with Rev. John Wallace officiating. Family and Friends are invited to a visitation at the church from 12PM until the time of services. A light dinner will follow the services in the church’s social hall. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to Evangelical United Methodist Church, 305 S. Centre St. Pottsville PA, 17901. Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.
