Joseph C. Ferhat, Sr.

  Joseph C. Ferhat, Sr. 73 of Pottsville, died Thursday in Pottsville.

  He was born September 18, 1944 in Pottsville son of the late Joseph T. and Anna Sophy Ferhat.

  He was a 1963 graduate of Nativity BVM High School, Pottsville.

  He was an Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War.

  Joe was co-owner of the former Gateway Diner and Motel, Pottsville, a bartender at Fountain Spring Country Club, Ashland; Bar Manager at the former Pottsville Club and bartender at Oak Hill Inn, Orwigsburg.

  Joe was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville and Mechanicsville Game and Fish.

  He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Glass and a brother, Thomas “Pete” Ferhat. Surviving are his wife of 46 years Cindy Davis Ferhat; 2 sons, Joseph C. Ferhat, Jr. and his wife Debbie Yuengling-Ferhat; Daniel Ferhat and his wife Nichole Orlowsky, Lafayette Hill; a sister, Catherine “Cookie” Ferhat, Pottsville, and a brother, William Ferhat, Pottsville: 8 grandchildren, Jake, Lauren, Nolan, Olivia, Lily, Annabel, Isaac and Eden Ferhat. Nieces and nephews.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11AM from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 5-8P.M. Wednesday at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, and from 9:30 until the time of mass Thursday at St. Patrick Church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to Nativity Green Wave Association PO Box 435 Pottsville PA, 17901 or Schuylkill YMCA Kids to Camp 520 N. Centre St. Pottsville PA, 17901. Interment with military honors will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.
