Andrew J. Megna, Sr. 93 of Pottsville, died Sunday evening at Providence Place Retirement Community, Pottsville.
He was born October 4, 1924 in Schoentown son of the late Angelo and Mary Gerace Megna.
He was a 1942 graduate of Pottsville High School.
He was a Navy Veteran having served during World War II.
He married his wife Anna Melnick Megna, who preceded him in death on September 20, 2008 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church, Minersville, on November 22, 1947.
He was co-owner with his brother Gerry, of the former Megna Brothers Cleaners in Pottsville, and was also the Tax Claim Director of Schuylkill County prior to retiring to Florida in 1987 where he resided until 2015 when he returned to Pottsville.
Andrew was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, and the Schuylkill Country Club.
Andrew was also an avid golfer throughout his life.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his brother Gerry Megna, and a sister, May Hickey. Surviving are 2 sons, Andrew J. Megna, Jr. and his wife Patricia, Emmaus; Alan R. Megna and his wife Mary, Mechanicsburg: 4 grandchildren, Andrew Megna and his wife Viki, Ashley, Antonio and Jess Megna: 1 great-grandson, Alec Megna: a sister, Josephine Messina, Pottsville: Nieces and Nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11A.M. from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9:30-10:30A.M. Friday at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Pottsville.
