Theodore R. Starr

March 30, 1933 — August 6, 2017

  Theodore R. Starr, 84, of Pottsville, died Sunday at Manor Care Nursing Home in Pottsville.   He was born in Pottsville on March 30, 1933, son of the late Howard and Bertha Kimmel Starr.   He graduated from Pottsville High School in 1952.   Following military service in the U.S. Army in Korea, Ted began working in the Philadelphia area for General Electric, residing for many years in Conshohocken, PA. He spent 55 years in the aerospace business with General Electric and successor companies, retiring at age 81 from Lockheed Martin. Much of Ted’s work over the years contributed to various Air Force Strategic programs. He truly enjoyed his long working career and his many friends and colleagues in the business. Following his retirement in 2014, Ted returned to Pottsville, residing at Providence Place.   He was a member of the former First United Church of Christ, Pottsville, PA. Ted was a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, often recalling fond memories from youth of Boy Scout adventures in Schuylkill County as a member of Troop 3, Pottsville.   He was also a history buff and enjoyed watching sports. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan, cheering them on as a season ticket holder for 50 years.   He was preceded in death by his brother, James A. Starr, and brother-in-law, Michael A. Harnadek, Sr. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Harnadek, Pottsville; niece, Judy Harnadek, and her husband David Skrincosky, Howell, NJ; nephew, Michael A. Harnadek, Jr., Pottsville; great-nephews, Mark and Benjamin Skrincosky, cousins and friends.   Funeral services will be held Friday at 11AM from James Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, with Rev. John Wallace officiating. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:30A.M. until the time of services The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions be made to Salvation Army 400 Sanderson Street, Pottsville, PA 17901 or Pottsville Free Public Library 217 West Market St. Pottsville PA, 17901.
