Helen M. Derfler

  Helen M. Derfler, 89 of Pottsville, died Tuesday at Schuylkill Center.

  She was born September 17, 1927 in Pottsville daughter of the late John O’Brien and Mary Ash O’Brien Stump.

  She was a graduate of Pottsville High School and Rembrandt Beauty Academy, Philadelphia.

  She was employed by Mr. John’s, Pottsville and Hamburg Center as a beautician and was owner and operator of the former Helen Marie Beauty Salon, Pottsville. She was also Manager of Continental Beauty Salon, Pottsville.

  Helen was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, past-president of Tall Cedars of Lebanon Ladies Auxiliary, and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

  She was preceded in death by her husband John J. Derfler on September 1, 1991; a granddaughter, Danielle Derfler; sister, Rose Mary Philips. Surviving are two sons, John “Jack” Derfler and his wife Monique, Lebanon; and Thomas Derfler and his wife Pat Alansky, New Philadelphia. 4 grandchildren, Daren, Ryan, Joshua, Sarah Derfler: 2 great-grandsons, Boden and Lukas Derfler; Nieces and Nephews.

  Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11A.M from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:30-10:30A.M. at the James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to her granddaughter’s memorial fund, Danielle Derfler Memorial/Education Fund, c/o Lebanon Federal Credit Union, 300 Schneider Drive, Lebanon, PA  17046. Inurnment will be private at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.
