Daniel William Guers, 91, of Pottsville, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family Tuesday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street. Danny was the owner of Guers Dairy. He was born May 12, 1925, in the family's home in Tumbling Run, Tamaqua, and the second youngest of eight children to the late Daniel Fredrick and Gertrude Wilhemina Brockhoff Guers. Danny was a 1942 graduate of Blythe Township High School, New Philadelphia, and attended Pennsylvania State University. Danny proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II. He was a "PhM3c" pharmacist's mate 3rd class, aboard the USS Herald of the Morning. Danny's family began bottling milk in the basement of the family home and his father had a local delivery route. After his father died, Danny joined his brother, Howard, and took over the family milk business. Today Guers Dairy is still family owned and operated by Danny's sons, Daniel C. and Edward C., and son-in-law, William C. Yaag. In addition to dairy products, Guers Dairy also sells fruit drinks, orange juice, water and its well-known iced tea. Danny and his wife, Jeanne Marie, enjoyed being snowbirds, spending the winter months in Delray Beach, Fla. Danny enjoyed golfing, traveling the world, dining with friends, telling stories and making people laugh. Danny was always known to greet people with his friendly smile and handshake. Danny loved people and will truly be missed by his family and friends. Danny was a member of First United Methodist Church, Pottsville, a lifetime member of the Pottsville Lions Club and served on the board of directors for the Union Bank & Trust Co. and United Cerebral Palsy. He was preceded in death by brothers, James R. and his wives, Viola and Agnes, and Howard J. and his wife, Dorothy; sisters, Mary El Lillie and her husband, Robert, Elise J. Bensinger and her husband, Daniel, Frances L. Sievering and her husband, Howard, and Gertrude A. Moyer and her husband, Harold. Danny is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeanne Marie Follett Guers, Pottsville; children, Daniel C. Guers and his wife, Joan, Orwigsburg, Patricia "Sister" Yaag and her husband, William, Pottsville, Edward C. Guers and his wife, Debra, Pottsville, and Molly B. Guers, Pottsville; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; his youngest brother, William R. Guers and his wife, Grace Louise, New Philadelphia. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from First United Methodist Church, Pottsville, with pastor John Wallace officiating. Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday. There will be no visitation from the funeral home. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to First United Methodist Church, 330 W. Market St., Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment with military honors will be held in Charles Baber Cemetery, Pottsville. James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, is in charge of arrangements.
