George H. Roxandich, 90 of Pottsville, died Monday at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian St . He was born August 19, 1925 in Landsford son of the late Harry and Anastasia Geusic Roxandich. He was a graduate of Landsford High School and attended Princeton University. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, where he served with the 104th Timberwolf Infantry Division. On October 31, 1944 George was wounded and captured in Holland by the German Army where he was a POW for seven months prior to being liberated by Allied forces in May 1945. In those seven months George kept a note book writing about his fears and the conditions within the camp. The story of his experience as a POW is on display at the National World War II Museum, in New Orleans, LA. He was also the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in action. He was employed at Prudential Insurance Company and National ChemSearch, prior to retiring. George was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville and the Pottsville Lions Club. He is survived by his wife Margaret Pisklak Roxandich, Pottsville : a son George Roxandich, and his wife Alexandria, Bethlehem : a daughter Susan Roxandich and her spouse Olivia Gilinger, Philadelphia : 7 grandchildren, Carly, Hallie, Maddie, Tory, Emily, George, and John: 2 great-grandchildren, Ethan and Caleb: a sister, Catherine Hedes, Allentown : nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 11A.M. at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to call beginning at 9:30A.M at St. Patrick.
