Harry Nazarene Piccioni, 75 of Pottsville, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his wife, Barbara, on April 17th at the Florida Memorial Medical Center in Ormond Beach, FL. The couple spent their winters in Ormond Beach for the last several years. Harry is predeceased by his parents, Harry A. and Mary J. Fanok Piccioni. Surviving in addition to his wife, Barbara Piccioni, are his daughter, Stephanie Carlson and granddaughter, Leah Carlson, both of West Chester; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Patricia O’Connell, of York and several cousins. Harry is also survived by his extended family in Ormond Beach, which include Dr. Whitney (Pollock) Shoemaker, her sons, Gunnar and Tay Pollock, her mother Eileen Shoemaker, and siblings, Jamie, Stephanie and Braden. Harry was a member of the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville since birth and was currently a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. He was an adorer at the Divine Mercy Perpetual Adoration Chapel at St. Patrick. Harry was also an active participant in the preparation of food for St. Patrick monthly spaghetti dinner. Harry owned and operated Harry’s Market in Drexel Hill as well as Piccioni’s Deli and Steak House, Pottsville. Harry served six years in the Army Reserve. He was a former member of the Minersville Rotary and a member of the former Pottsville Club. He was a loyal member of the Reunion Committee of Pottsville High School Class of 1958. He was also a member of the Federation of Eagles of Ormond by the Sea. Harry was an 18 ½ year heart transplant survivor. He was one of the longest heart transplant recipients in the Hershey Medical Program. With his positive attitude, he was an inspiration to those waiting for hearts. In addition, he was a very courageous cancer survivor. Harry loved life. After his successful heart transplant, he vowed that everyday he would make some one person smile. This he accomplished and much more. Harry’s indomitable spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and indeed all those whom touched. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11A.M. from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with the Rev. Edward B. Connelly as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:30 A.M. until the time of mass. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantango St. Pottsville, PA 17901.
