Alesandro J. “Andy” Alfonsi, 85 of Pottsville, died Thursday at home. He was born May 26 1930 in Rochester NY, son of the late Salvatore and Maria DeFelic Alfonsi. He attended Pottsville Schools and was employed by Mack Truck, Allentown, prior to retiring. He was proud Army veteran having served during the Korean War where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Andy was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, UAW, and assisted with the Norwegian Twp Voting Poll. He was a member of the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and Mary Queen of Peace Holy Name Society. You always knew where Andy was any given time because he was always singing or humming. He was the main care of if wife-you would always see him pushing her in her wheelchair at the malls. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and a human being. He loved to tell jokes and tease anybody he saw. He could always be found and the Yorkville Coney Island. He was preceded in death by and infant son Brian, in 1965. 2 sisters, Elviria Hess and Santanna Gorman: a brother Mario Alfonsi. Surviving is the love of his life, his wife of 58 years, Clare McGovern Alfonsi; 2 daughters, Justina Majestic and her husband Chuck, Pottsville; Patty Semanchick and her husband Attorney Mark, Frackville. 6 grandchildern, Mark, Steven, Patrick, Daniel and Christina Semanchick, Kelly Majestic Eales and her husband Rodger. A brother Joseph Alfonsi and his wife Alice, Pottsville; a sister Rosa Lily, St. Clair; 2 sister-in-laws Jane Bobinis, Pottsville; Sonia Alfonsi, Las Vegas, NV; a brother-in-law, Jack McGovern, Palo Alto: nieces and nephews. Important to him was God and his family. He always enjoyed attending of his grandchildren’s events, never missing any. He also enjoyed attending his Retiree’s Union meetings, collecting “scale” model try trucks, spending time with his family and friends. He loved watching Fox News and knew everything that was going on in the world. He was proud of his Italian heritage and to have served his country. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 A.M. from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with the Rev. David J. Loeper as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to call Sunday evening at the church from 6:00P.M.-8:00P.M. and Monday morning from 10:00A.M. until the time of mass. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to Wounded Warriors Project P.O. Box 758517, Topeka KS, 66675.
