Alfred L. "Gov" Hauptly, Sr., 84 of Pottsville died Wednesday night at home. He was born October 21, 1930 in Pottsville son of the late Alfred M. and Catherine R. Klitsch. He was a graduate of Pottsville High School and was employed as Journeyman Electrician at Limerick Nuclear Power Plant in Norristown, prior to retiring. Alfred was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, where he served as Eucharistic Minister and I.B.E.W. Local 743. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette Coulson Hauptly of April 3, 2007; 4 sisters, Sister Alfredine Hauptly, Barbara Weiss, Laura Andrews, and Agnes Webber; 2 brothers, Gerald and William Hauptly. Surviving are 7 children, Patricia Kramer and her husband David, Exeter; William Hauptly and his wife Denise, Pottsville; Mary Jo Whitaker and her husband James, Queensbury NY; Greta Strauss and her husband Bud, Lehighton; Jacqueline Hauptly, Chicago, IL; Barbara Bentz, Harrisburg; A.J. Hauptly and his wife Jen, Schuylkill Haven: 2 sisters, Rose Shaffer, Baltimore, MD; and Marie Plasha, Sinking Spring: 20 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville with the Rev. David J. Loeper as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to call at the church from 6:00P.M.-8:00P.M. Monday and 9:30 A.M. until the time of mass.
