Lawrence E. Burke, 76 of Pottsville, died Sunday evening at home. He was born July 7, 1938 in Pottsville son of the late Edward and Sophie Reppe Burke. He was a graduate of Minersville High School and was employed by former Coke A Cola Bottling Co. for 30 years prior to retiring in 2002. He was an Air Force veteran having served during the Vietnam War. Larry was a member of the VFW Post #129, American Legion, Catholic War Vets Post # 1051, Pottsville Pride, and the former Anthracite Bowl Committee. He was also part of the original Pottsville Lions Club EMS crew. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Janice Miller on September 11, 2003; a brother Bernard Burke; 2 sisters, Claudia Cullather and Elizabeth Pukas. Surviving are 5 children, Curtis Burke and his wife Kendra, Minersville; Todd Burke, St. Clair; Vincee` Bailey and her boyfriend Brian Tobin, Schuylkill Haven; Edward Burke and his wife Charmane, Pottsville; Jaime Sheriff and her husband David, Pottsville: a sister, Dolores Starr, Minersville: 11 grandchildren, Justin, Caitlyn, Jared, Alec, Adam, Brianna, Taylor, Gianinna, Tristan, Treasure, Melody; nieces and nephews. Service of Remembrance will be held Thursday at 8:00 P.M. from the James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville family and friends are invited to call from 6:00 P.M. until the time of services. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to St. Jude Children Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105-1942. Interment with military honors will be at the convenience family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
