Robert E. Barr

Robert E. Barr, 85 of Pottsville, died Saturday at Schuylkill Center. He was born July 6, 1929 in Pottsville son of the late James and Cecilia Ebert Barr. He was a 1947 graduate of Pottsville High School. After serving 4 years in the Navy aboard the USS Wood, he attended Penn State University and received an Associates Degree in drafting and design. He was employed by Atlas Powder Company, Reynolds for 20 years and retired from Exxon Corporation in 1994. Known by all of his friends as "Yogi" Bob was an avid golfer. As a young man he was an active firefighter with the American Hose Co and remained a life-long member. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Elizabeth "Betty" Smith Barr; 4 children, Beth Shields and her husband Craig, Pottsville; Christopher Barr and his wife Linda, Westminster, CO; Bryan Barr and his wife Carol, Pine Grove; and Gregory Barr, Pottsville. He is also survived by his niece Jennifer Smith, Providence, RI; granddaughters, Laura, and Rachel Shields and his best friends. In accordance with Bob's wishes there will be no formal services. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions to be made to American Hose Co. 323 W. Norwegian St. Pottsville, PA 17901. James E.
