Paul Joseph Bartholomew, 90, formerly of Pottsville, died Tuesday, Lebanon. He was Born July 17, 1924 in Pottsville the son of the late Harry A. and Kathryn A. Cantwell Bartholomew. He was a 1942 graduate of Pottsville High School and worked briefly at the Lancaster Watch factory until his induction into the US Army, where he served as a Machinist from 1943 until 1946. He attended Army training schools at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland and at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. He was also stationed overseas during World War II in Trinidad. Upon return to civilian life, he attended McCann School of Business and was co-owner of P&J Used Cars in Yorkville. He enjoyed discussing cars of his era. He later worked as a material handler at the former Mirawal/Kaiser Aluminum Corp. in Port Carbon for 28 years until retirement. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Helen Williams who currently resides in Myerstown; son Paul D. Bartholomew of Wyomissing, Pa; daughter, Hedy Bartholomew Stump wife of Carl E. Stump, Lebanon, PA; and a special niece, Helene (nee Tesno, Roscoe) McLaughlin and her husband Terry of Mar-Lin, PA. Mrs. McLaughlin previously lived with her uncle and his extended family while growing up and provided support and contact to her uncle and aunt in their golden years. Mr. Bartholomew is also survived by one granddaughter, Bridget Stump Frey, her husband Christopher and three great grandchildren, MacKenzie, Paige and Gabriel Frey all of Cleona, PA. Paul was the sixth of eleven children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, George F. and his wife Ann, Charles F. and his wife Marie, Harold J., James J., a sister, Kathryn A. Bartholomew; and two sisters-in-law, Henrietta Williams Tesno and Violet Williams. Paul is also survived by a brother Carl J. Bartholomew, four sisters, Rita M. Foley, widow of John, Theresa T. Sencak, widow of John, all of Pottsville, Janet Whitaker, widow of Charles, Norristown, and Frances Lorenz, wife of Charles Lorenz, Pottsville; a sister-in-law Janet Weiss Bartholomew wife of James, West Chester, one brother in-law, Raymond Williams of Elizabethville, PA, and three generations of nieces and nephews. A short service will be held Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home at Pottsville with Deacon John E. Quirk officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing from 12:00 P.M. until the time of services. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 305 South Centre Street, Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
