J. Terry Case, 76 of Pottsville, died Sunday afternoon at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was born February 21, 1938 in Sunbury son of the late Joseph and Louise Treas Case. He was the Valedictorian of the 1956 class of Sunbury High School and a graduate of Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island. He was a teacher for many years having taught at Northumberland High School, Pottsville High School, starting the wrestling program in 1961 and coaching football, Brother Rice High School in Chicago, also starting and coaching the wrestling program, in addition to coaching football. He also taught at Minersville High School where he was football coach from 1964-1967, and wrestling coach at Tri-Valley where his team won Tri-County co-championship along with North Schuylkill. At Pottsville Area High School, he coached wrestling, he was also assistant football coach from 1969-1977. He taught English, History and Sociology and CP Verbal prior to retiring in 1993. After retirement Terry spent many years video taping sporting and social events for the Pottsville Area High School and taught an SAT prep course from his home. Terry was a member of Schuylkill County Coach's Association, where he served as Secretary/Treasurer, Allen-Rogowicz All Sports Hall of Fame, where he the received the Keating-Carusella Award, Schuylkill County Chapter #25 National College Football Foundation Hall of Fame, Honorary Inductee of the Pottsville Area High School All Sports Hall of Fame, Pennsylvania District 11 Hall of Fame for Wrestling, and Hidden Valley Senior Golf League. He also was a PIAA official for baseball and wrestling and assistant football coach for Nativity BVM High School. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Case. Surviving are his wife of 41 years the former Kathryn Dimmerling; two daughters, Kristyn Case-Blum and her husband Justin, Dr. Lindsay Case-Trout and her husband T.J. all of Pottsville: a brother Bill Case and his wife Judee, Sun City West, AZ: two grandchildren, Landon J. and Avery K. Trout. Nieces and Nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11:00 A.M. from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with Rev. Kevin M. Lonergan as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to call from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening and from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. Friday at the church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to the J. Terry Case Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Pottsville Area High School, 16th and Elk Ave, Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will be at St. John No. 2 Cemetery, Pottsville. James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, is in charge of arrangements.
