James M. "Irish" Benedict, 83 of Pottsville, died Wednesday afternoon at home. He was born February 28, 1931 in Pottsville, son of the late James Grace and Agnes Benedict Demartini. He attended Mary Queen of Peace Schools and was employed by the Greater Pottsville Sewer Authority, prior to retiring. Irish was a member Buck Fever Rod & Gun Club, the Tubby Allen-Chet Rogowicz Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and was a Democratic Committee man for the City of Pottsville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Benedict Williams; and a grandson Joel Benedict. Surviving are his wife of 51 years the former Ethel J. McClure; a son, Robert J. "Wolf" Benedict and his companion Debbie Cox; 4 daughters, Colleen "Inky" Kline and her husband, Henry, Sr.; Deanna Kintzel; Lori Benedict; and Stacy Benedict, all of Pottsville: a step-sister Theresa Tuite, Pottsville: 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services will be held 10:00A.M. Monday at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville with the Vicar Chris Rothharpt officiating. Family and friends are invited to call Sunday evening from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. and Monday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services.
