Joan M. Schappell

Joan M. Schappell, 78 of Pottsville, died Tuesday afternoon at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian St. She was born August 7, 1935 in Tower City daughter of the late Harvey and Lillian Adams Brensinger. She attended Schuylkill Haven Schools and was employed by the former Argo Mills, Schuylkill Haven, prior to retiring. Joan was a member of the former 1st United Church of Christ, Pottsville. She was preceded in death by her husband Irvin D. "Irv" Schappell on November 17, 2010; 3 brothers, Harvey, Edward and Roger Brensinger. Surviving are her children, Irvin D. Schappell, Jr. Pottsville; Joseph E. Schappell and his wife Patricia, Lititz; Robert J. Schappell and his wife Kathleen, Pottsville; and Joan M. Lechleitner, and her companion Kerry Titus, Pottsville: 2 brothers, Jerome and Gary Brensinger, both of Willow Lake: 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, with the Pastor James R. Fidler officiating. Family and friends are invited to call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services Monday. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to the Simon Kramer Institute 15 Alliance St. New Philadelphia, PA 17959. Interment will be at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
