Agnes R. McCullough Kelly

Agnes R. McCullough Kelly, 93 of Pottsville where she resided in the Yorkville section for many years died Monday morning at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville. She was born January 17, 1921 in St. Clair, youngest of 8 children to the late Patrick and Annie Mack McCullough. She was a 1938 graduate of St. Clair High School and attended Penn State University. Mrs. Kelly was sole proprietor for many years of a small Hamburger Shop in St. Clair. Mrs. Kelly was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Besides raising a family of four she devoted many hours to volunteer activities such as working for the Lionettes, the American Diabetes Association, Pottsville Winter Carnival, Charities and other civic organizations. She was also eligible for Irish Citizenship through her maternal grandmother Bridgid Kern. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Kelly; siblings, Sister Mary Cyril, John McCullough, Katherine McCullough, Mae Knoble, Elizabeth Swartzbaugh, Dr. Francis McCullough, and Joseph McCullough. Surviving are her beloved children, Brian E. Kelly and his wife Dr. Clare Venus, Montclair, N.J.; Anne Anges Messaros and her husband Dr. Mark, Leominster, MA; Maribeth Johnson Gonzalez and her husband David, Pottsville; Gerard Patrick Kelly and his wife Ann McFadden, Norristown: 11 grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services and Interment will be at the convenience of the family. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to Pottsville Soup Kitchen C/O St. Patrick Church, 319 Mahantongo St. Pottsville, PA 17901. James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements.
