Mary A. Murton

Mary A. Murton, of Luther Ridge, Pottsville died Friday on her 93rd birthday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson St. She was born March 28, 1921 in Pottsville, daughter of the late John and Margie Johnson Shaw. She was a 1940 graduate of Pottsville High School. She attended the former Dorothy Hazel Beauty School, Pottsville and was owner of the former Mary Ann's Beauty Shop, Pottsville. Mary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville and the Air Force Sergeants Association. She was preceded in by her husband, SMSGT William N. Murton, (Ret.) on May 18, 2012; a brother, Elmer Shaw; 2 sisters, Rhoda Usewicz and Joan Eberhardt. Surviving are her son, William J. Murton, Sr. and his wife Patricia, Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Kay Shaw, Pottsville; 3 grandchildren, William J. Murton Jr., and his wife Julie; Nicole Porter and her husband Scott, and Jonathan Murton: 2 great-grandchildren, Brittany Dent and Fiona Murton: Nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, with the Rev. Harold L. Hand, Jr., officiating. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. The family would prefer remembrances in form of contributions made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch St. Pottsville, PA 17901. James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, is in charge of arrangements.
