Joseph G. Christ, 93, of Pottsville, died Friday at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian St. He was born December 17, 1921 in Pottsville son of the late Joseph (a retired Pottsville Police Sgt) and Emma Hochgertel Christ. He graduated with honors from Pottsville Catholic High School in 1940. He was Corporal in the Army Air Corp having served with the 525th Bomb Squadron, 379th Bomb Group during World War II where he received the Distinguished Unite Badge, European-African-Middle Eastern Service medal and the Good Conduct medal. He was later employed by Alcoa, Cressona, prior to retiring in 1977. Joe was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, Yorkville Hose Co., 6 County Firemen Association, Catholic War Vets Post 1051, Alcoa 25 year club, Alcoa Retirees, and St. Bernard's Beneficial Association. Joe also enjoyed watching basketball and football. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Christ; a sister, Carolyn Nygren. Surviving are cousins. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with the Rev. David J. Loeper as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of mass Thursday. The family would prefer remembrances in form of contributions made to St. John Memorial Fund, 913 Mahantongo St. Pottsville PA, 17901. Interment with military honors will be held at St. John No. 2 Cemetery, Pottsville. James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, is in charge of arrangements.
