Eleanor S. McDermott, 104, a former resident of Providence Place, Pottsville died Friday afternoon at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Schuylkill Haven. She was born April 7, 1909 in Pottsville daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Hohman Smith and was a graduate of Pottsville High School. She was employed as a secretary for 30 years by Prudential Insurance Co. and prior to retiring, by St. Patrick Rectory for 22 years. Eleanor was member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville where she was the oldest parishioner. She was former member of Catholic War Veterans Post 1051 Ladies Auxiliary, Pottsville Club Ladies Auxiliary where she was a Past President, Good Samaritan Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Pottsville. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. McDermott in1964: 7 brothers, Robert, Walter, William, John, Fred, Joseph and George Smith. Surviving are nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews: 2 step-daughters, Anita Bell and her husband William, Fairview; Angela Hardy and her husband, John, Harrisburg: step grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of mass at the lower chapel of the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrance in form of contributions made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantongo St. Pottsville PA 17901. James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, is in charge of arrangements.
