M.J. Connell

M. J. Connell, 58, of Pottsville, died Monday evening at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She was born January 17, 1954 in Pottsville daughter of Mary Lesko Connell, Pottsville and the late George F. Connell. She was a 1971 graduate of Nativity BVM High School and received a bachelor of science and masters degree in medical technology from Thomas Jefferson University and was a specialist in microbiology. She was employed by the former Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville as a medical technician. M. J. was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville and the over 50 club of the church, Ivyside Swim Club where she was a past president. M.J. also enjoyed quilling, reading and swimming throughout her life. She was preceded in death by a brother John Connell. Surviving in addition to her mother are 3 brothers, George and his wife Sharon, Frederick, MD, James and his wife Dol, Phoenix, AR; and Joe, W. VA: 5 sisters, Janet Duprey, Center Conway, NH; Terri Johnson, and her husband Van, Tucker, GA; Dr. Bernie Connell and her husband Randy Stahl, Fort Collins, CO, Karen Rhoad, and her husband Steve, Hummelstown, and Susie Zoller, Pottsville: nieces, nephews, and Frostie, her pet poodle. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 A.M. from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with the Rev. David J. Loeper as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:00 A.M. until the time of mass. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to St. John Memorial Fund, 913 Mahantongo St. Pottsville PA, 17901 or Pottsville Free Public Library, 217 W. Market St, Pottsville PA, 17901. Interment will be in St. John No. 2 Cemetery, Pottsville. James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, is in charge of arrangements.
