Ethel McCloskey Joyce, 69, of Pottsville, died Friday at Golden Living Center-York Terrace, Pottsville. She was born August 21, 1942 in Pottsville daughter of the late Peter J. and Catherine Mahoney McCloskey. She was a 1960 graduate of Nativity BVM High School and attended Goldy Beacon Junior College. She was employed as an assistant to the Human Resources Director at the former Pottsville Hospital and was later supervisor for the Commonwealth of PA Workmen's Compensation Bureau prior to retiring. Ethel was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville; Coal Crackin Red Hats, Schuylkill County Women's Democratic League, State Democratic Committee Representative, Pottsville City Democratic Committee Women, Schuylkill Health Auxiliary, Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival Board, Pottsville Business and Professional Women's Club, Pottsville Club and its board of directors, and ladies auxiliary, Service Circle of Kings Daughters, Schuylkill Children and Youth Advisory Board, Greater Pottsville Area Sewer Authority Board of Directors, Past-President of the Pottsville Football Mother's Boosters, and a former member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, JFK Division. Surviving are 4 children, Patrick Joyce, Sandpoint, Idaho, Peter Joyce and his wife Melissa, Pottsville, Lalor Joyce and his wife Christine, Pottsville, and Kaeti Joyce Russo and her husband John, Fairfield, Connecticut: 6 Grandchildren, Hannah, Luke, and Lily Joyce, Aidan, Gavin, and Quinn Russo: 2 Uncles, Honorable Joseph F. McCloskey and his wife, Joanne, Pottsville and James Mills McCloskey and his wife, Marguerite, Mayfield, Kentucky: 3 cousins, Sally Fleming, Philadelphia Area, Edward "Eddie" Clark, Ashland, and Patti Armstrong and her husband Peter, Reading: her companion, Michael "Mick" Botto, Pottsville: A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11:30 A.M. from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with Rev. Joseph T. Whalen, Jr., as celebrant. Family and friends are a invited to call from 9:00 A.M. until the time of mass.
