Irvin D. Schappell

Irvin D. "Irv" Schappell, Sr., 81, of Pottsville died Wednesday at home. He was born April 6, 1929 in Pottsville son of the late Elmer J. Sr., and Ethel Lash Schappell. He was a graduate of Pottsville High School and later served in the Army. He was employed by Lehigh Valley Dairy Farms, Schuylkill Haven, prior to retiring. He was a member of the former 1st United Church of Christ, Pottsville, AMVETS Post 180, Pottsville; Humane Fire Co. Pottsville; Railway Park Little League, Pottsville Midget Football League and Pottsville Boys Basketball League. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Elmer J. Jr., and William. Surviving are his wife of 55 years the former Joan Brensinger, Pottsville: 3 sons, Irvin D. II, and his wife Lisa, Phoenix, AZ, Joseph E. and his wife Patricia, Lititz, and Robert J. and his wife Kathleen, Pottsville: a daughter Joan M. Lechleitner and her companion Kerry Titus, Pottsville: 2 sisters, Agusta Weiss, Shoemakersville and Ethel Weller, Fleetwood: a brother James, Lawrenceville, NJ: 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren: Nieces and nephews. Services will be held Monday at 10:00A.M. from the James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, with the Pastor James R. Fidler officiating. Family and friends may call Sunday evening from 6:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. and Monday morning from 9:00A.M. until the time of services. The family would prefer remembrances in form of contributions made to Joan Schappell, 519 Harrison St., Pottsville PA, 17901. Interment with military honors will be at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
