Catherine M. McCloskey, R.N.

Catherine M. "Kitty" McCloskey, R.N. , 91, of Pottsville died Friday evening at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson St., Pottsville. She was born November 11, 1918 in Pottsville daughter of the late Thomas and Helen O'Connor Mahoney. She was a 1937 graduate of Cass Township High School and a graduate of the Women's Homeopathic Hospital, Philadelphia. She worked as Registered Nurse for the former Warne Hospital and Dr. Harry Close. She later worked as a private duty nurse for the former Good Samaritan Hospital, and as a visiting nurse for the King's Daughters. She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, former Pottsville Postmaster, Peter J. "Pete" McCloskey on December 5, 2006: 4 brothers, Thomas, James, Joseph, and Harold Mahoney: 2 sisters, Mildred Brennan, and Mary Reese. Surviving are a daughter Ethel McCloskey Joyce, Pottsville: a sister Helene Mullins, Hecksherville: 2 brother-in-laws, Honorable Joseph F. McCloskey and his wife, Joanne, Pottsville and James Mills McCloskey and his wife, Marguerite, Mayfield, Kentucky: 4 grandchildren, Patrick Joyce, Sandpoint, Idaho, Peter Joyce and his wife Melissa, Pottsville, Lalor Joyce and his wife Christine, Pottsville, and Kaeti Joyce Russo and her husband John, Fairfield, Connecticut: 6 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Luke, and Lily Joyce, Aidan, Gavin, and Quinn Russo: Nieces and Nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and her beloved dog Muffy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:00 A.M. until the time of mass. The family would prefer remembrances made in form of contributions made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund 319 Mahantango St. Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, is in charge of arrangements.
