Betty Jean Thornburg, R. N.

Betty Jean Thornburg, R.N., 77, of Pottsville died Thursday at home.

She was born September 2, 1931 in Schuylkill Haven daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Donne McKeon.

She was a 1949 graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School and a 1953 graduate of Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing.

She was employed by the Good Samaritan Hospital for 35 years prior to retiring in 1994.

She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville and Ladies of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, JFK Division #2, Pottsville.

She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Michael and Joseph McKeon and a companion, Francis Mohan. Surviving are a daughter, Lynn McGowan, Pottsville: 3 sons, Michael and his wife Debra, Exeter, David and his wife, Sandy, Flying Hills, and Daniel, Carson, California: 8 grandchildren, Nicole McGowan Padgitt, Florida, Sam McGowan, Utah, Alex and Ashley Thornburg, Exeter, Casey and Spencer Thornburg, Flying Hills, Marisa and Ellia Thornburg, Carson, California: a great granddaughter, Carly: 2 brothers, Donald Mckeon, Schuylkill Haven and David McKeon, Trappe: 4 sisters, Helen Higgins, Bernadette Zulick, Molly Fanelli, all of Pottsville and Kathy Leavitt, Orlando, Florida; one aunt, Elizabeth Trumbo: nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Bob Reiley, M.M. on Monday at 11:00 A.M. from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends may call at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 A. M. till the time of Mass. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901 or Covenant Home Care, 1510 Highway 61 South, Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, is in charge of arrangements.
