Charles K. Heffner

Charles K. "Chow" Heffner, 81, former Pottsville Controller and Councilman and former Schuylkill County Prothonotary died Friday morning at Schuylkill Medical Center, South Jackson St. He was born September 18, 1927 in Pottsville son of the late George S. And Helen Moyer Heffner. He was a 1947 graduate of Pottsville High School and was a member of the undefeated 1946 football team. He was also a graduate of Bullis Preparatory School, Silver Spring, Maryland. He was the owner of the former C. K. Heffner Hauling. He served with the Army National Guard for 20 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, Allen/Rogowicz Chapter of the PA Sports Hall of Fame, a past president of the Pottsville Lions Club where he was recognized as a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions International Foundation, a 60 year member of the Humane Fire Co., Pottsville, Schuylkill County Retired Employees Association, St. Clair Old Timers Baseball Association, Historical Society of Schuylkill County, Amvets Post 180, Pottsville and the Republican National Committee. He was preceded in death by a son, Ross C. and 2 sisters, Mildred H. Fox and Grace H. Weber. Surviving are his wife, the former Jeanne Heiber, R.N. to whom he was married for 55 years on April 24, a brother, Judge George W. Heffner and his wife Barbara, Pottsville, a sister, Lorraine H. Spotts and her husband Gerald, Pottsville, his caretakers, Beth and Jim Kaylan, nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. from Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville with Rev. Harold L. Hand, Jr. officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. till the time of service. Entombment will be in Union Cemetery Mausoleum, Schuylkill Haven. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch St., Pottsville, PA 17901 for the Charles K. and Ross C. Heffner Emergency Fund. James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, is in charge of arrangements.
