James P. Greenberg, 70, of Pottsville died Friday evening at Schuylkill Medical Center South Jackson St. He was born November 11, 1937 in Pottsville son of the late Benjamin and Mary Strange Greenberg. He attended Pottsville Catholic High School and was a veteran of the Marine Corps. He was a Police Officer with the City of Pottsville for 26 years prior to retiring in 1992. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #44, Pottsville and a life member of the Marine Corps League, Minersville. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia L. Greenberg in 1991: 2 brothers, Thomas Greenberg in 1973 and Gerald Greenberg in 2001. Surviving are his wife of 47 years the former Dolores Shappell: a daughter, Denise Hauptly and her husband William, Pottsville: 2 sons, Jeffrey Greenberg and his wife Debra, Pottsville and James Greenberg, Jr. Pottsville: a brother, Harry Greenberg and his wife Mary Lynn, Warminster, a sister Phyllis Tarantino and her husband Michael, Lake Wynonah: 6 grandchildren, Erica, B. J., Tyler, Jordan, and Camryn Hauptly and Jennifer Greenberg. 1 great grandchild, Jayce Adamick: nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. from the James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. and on Friday morning from 10:00 A.M. till the time of service. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to Goodwill Industries, 91 Progress Ave., Pottsville, PA 17901 or Avenues, 2 Park St., Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will be at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
