Charles T. Phillips

  Charles T. Phillips, 95 of Pottsville, died Thursday at the Gardens at York Terrace Nursing Home, Pottsville.

  He was born January 29, 1923 in St. Clair a son of the late James and Catherine McGuire Phillips.

  He attended Pottsville schools.

  He was a proud Army veteran having severed as a medic in the European Theatre during World War II.

  He was owner of the former Phillips Delicatessen in Minersville.

  Charles was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville and the American Legion.

  Throughout his life Charles was a big Norte Dame Football fan and enjoyed hunting with his son John.

  He was preceded in death by his wife Rose Mary O’Brian Phillips on September 4, 1988; 6 brothers, James, Thomas, Joseph, Edward, John, and Francis Phillips; a sister Anna Slane. Surviving are a son, John Samay and his wife Grace, Pottsville; 3 grandson Matthew Samay and his wife Amy, Reisterstown, MD; Kevin Samay and his wife Melissa, Pottsville; 3 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Riley and Emersyn Samay; a step great-grandson, Quinn Evans; nieces and nephews.

  Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:30AM from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to call at church from 10:30AM until the time of mass. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contribution made to Pottsville Soup Kitchen C/O St. Patrick Church 319 Mahantongo St., PA, 17901 or Compassus Hospice, 10 Zions Church Rd. Suite 204, Shoemakersville PA, 19555. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.
