Edward R. "Ned" Hummel, 90 of Pottsville, died Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown. He was born July 15, 1931 in Pottsville a son of the late Elmer and Julia O'Brien Hummel. He was a 1949 graduate of Pottsville High School. He was Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. Ned was a mailman for the U.S. Post Office in Pottsville, prior to retiring. Ned was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, Yorkville Hose Fire Co., Pottsville and NARFE. He was preceded in death by two twin sisters, Francis Buehler and Blanche Rodgers. Surviving are his wife of 62 years of marriage, Angeline "Nelle" Rakiewicz Hummel; 3 sons, Edward Hummel, and his husband, Bruce Harris, New York City; Mark Hummel and his wife Elayne, Bernville; Michael Hummel and his wife, Tiffany; Pottsville; 7 grandchildren, Max, Chanel, Hanna, Adam, Rachel, Caleb and Samarra; nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11AM from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9AM until the time of mass Friday at the church.
