Howard H. Fernsler, Jr., CPO U.S. Navy (Ret) formerly of Pottsville, died Thursday Nov 5, at Bayfront Health Seven Rivers, Crystal River, FL. He was born July 30, 1951 in Pottsville son the late Howard H. Fernsler, Sr. and Mabel Reppy Fernsler Schmidt. He was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School and earned his bachelors in education from the University of San Diego, San Diego, Cal. Howard served over 20 years in the Navy attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was Chief Electronic Tech from 1970-1992, taught at the advance electronics school from January 1982-August 1985, was Sailor of the Year in 1986, and was a participant in Operation Golden Rod in 1987. Howard served aboard the USS Butte (AE-27), USS Richard L. Page, (FFG-5) and USS Bronstein (FF-1037). Howard was employed by Pace Institute from 1994-1996, Berk Technical Institute as a Computer Instructor from 1996-2011 and was a Lay Supply Pastor for United Methodist Church, Minersville, prior to retiring He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Mae Berry Fernsler, Sept 5, 2015; 2 infant siblings, Walter and Sharon Fernsler. Surviving are his wife Lindsay Royles Fernlser, Crystal River, FL; a daughter, Kathleen Holley, Pottsville; a son, Steven Fernsler and his wife Marisa, Pottsville; 5 grandchildren, Gabbi and Tyler Holley, Katelynn Miller, Shane and Kelsey Hranchock; a great-granddaughter, Violet Miller; a sister, Bonnie Silcox, Pottsville; 2 brothers, William Fernsler, Pottsville, Gary Fernsler, Ormand Beach, FL; a special nephew Raymond Silcox and nieces and his canine companion Fido. Services will be held 10:30AM Thursday at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9-10:30AM at the funeral home. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contribution in memory of Howard be made to Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc., 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011. Interment with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
