Jeanne V. Heffner, R.N. 95, of Pottsville, died Tuesday morning at home.
She was born August 15, 1926 in Mount Carmel, a daughter of the late John F. and Catherine Ruths Heiber.
She was a 1944 graduate of Mount Carmel High School and a 1947 graduate of Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing. She also attended Penn State University for post graduate studies.
She worked as a Registered Nurse at the former Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic, where she was the youngest nursing supervisor, in 1950. She was also a Red Cross nurse and taught Home Nursing courses for years.
Jeanne was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, where she taught Sunday school for a number of years. She was also a member and past president of the Pottsville Lionettes, a member of the Pottsville Women’s Club, the former Pottsville Club and its Ladies Auxiliary, a charter member of the Pottsville Hospital Alumnae’s and the Pottsville Hospital Auxiliary.
Jeanne was an avid gardener, reader, and assisted those that needed help with health problems.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles K. “Chow” Heffner, May 15, 2009; a son, Ross Heffner, April 3, 2003;
Surviving are her husband's relatives and longtime caretakers, Bill and Pam Heffner, Pottsville.
Funeral Services will be held Monday at 11AM from Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, with Rev. Chris Rothharpt. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 10-11AM Monday at the church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Jeanne be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch St. Pottsville, PA 17901. Please write in the memo for Charles, Jeanne and Ross Heffner Emergency Fund. Entombment will be in Haven Mausoleum at Union Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
