John J. “Jack” Kephart, 71 of Mahanoy City formerly of Pottsville, died Tuesday at home.
He was born September 11, 1947 in Pottsville son of the late Joseph D and Catherine Brennan Kephart.
He was a 1965 graduate of Nativity BVM High School.
Prior to retiring Jack worked for Penske Trucking, Ryder, Heatron Inc, DuraClean and NAPA.
Jack was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville where he was a van driver and a member of Men of Trinity. He was also a volunteer for the Pottsville Soup Kitchen.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Marie Burke; a brother, J. David Kephart. Surviving are his wife of 45 years Cheryl Corby Kephart; a son, Joe Kephart and his wife Tammy, Pottsville; a daughter, Vickie Willier, and her husband Adam, Ephrata; 4 grandchildren, Haley Zerby, Caitlyn Kephart, Chelsea and Adalie Willer; nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life Jack was a steam engine locomotive enthusiast as a well as a heavy machine coal shovel enthusiast
Service of remembrance will be held 11AM Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, with Rev. Chris Rothharpt, officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6-8PM Sunday at from 10-11AM Monday at the church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to Penn State Hershey ALS Clinic and Research Center, 30 Hope Dr., Hershey PA, 17033 or ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road - Suite 260, Ambler PA, 19002. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville
