John A. Kutch

September 13, 1932 — March 19, 2022

John A. Kutch, 89, of Pottsville passed away peacefully on March 19, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born September 13th, 1932 in Pottsville. He is the son of the late Charles F. and Mary P. Genovese Kutch. He was the husband of Patricia A. Boyer Kutch of 64 years. John was a 1950 graduate of Pottsville High School. He was a state gymnastics champion and was inducted into Pottsville Area All Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. He served in the Army from February of 1953 to December of 1954 on active duty during the Korean War. When he returned home, he was employed by Quigley Lumber Company then began his career as a salesman at Robbin’s door and Sash. After becoming a manager, he finished his career at Columbia Building Supply Company in Mount Carmel. John was a long-time member of the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Pottsville, until becoming a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the Mechanicsville Game and Fish, Catholic War Veterans Post #1051, the VFW where he served as past commander, the 1950 Pottsville Alumni Group, the Schuylkill County Veterans Committee, and the Schuylkill County Historical Society. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, fishing, hunting, and camping. He looked forward to traveling to the Caribbean and the Finger Lakes with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Christine K. Deegan of Pottsville, Maria T. Kriner and her husband Dr. Ronald M. Kriner of Bethlehem, and Michael J. Kutch and companion Stacey M. Daubert of Pottsville. He is also survived by four grandchildren Evan M. Kriner, Katie P. Deegan, Noah B. Kriner, and Ava S. Kriner, a niece, Lisa Boyer Weaver, cousins, and a goddaughter. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11AM from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with Rev. Kevin J. Bobbin as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9-10:30AM Saturday at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of John be made to St. Jude Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation 2361 Hylan Blvd Staten Island, NY 10306 which benefits our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life & limb for our country.
