Joseph M. Quirk, SMSGT US Air Force, (Ret) 86, of Pottsville, died Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill East Norwegian St. He was born December 25, 1935 in Pottsville a son of the late John F and Alice Reddington Quirk. He was graduate of Pottsville High School. He was employed by Fort Indiantown Gap State Headquarters prior to retiring. He served during the Korean War and was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 41 years of service where attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Joe was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville where he served as usher, an original member of Greenwood Hill Fire Co. Good Intent Fire Co, a social member of American Hose Fire Co. A member of Ancient Order of Hibernians JFK Division #2, Catholic War Veterans Post 1051, Minor League Commission and coach for Rotary, Disabled American Veterans where he served as secretary and numerous other organizations. To many he was known as Pop- Pop, but he was SO much more. Husband, dad, great- grandfather, veteran, fellow fireman, coach, and his personal favorite- knower of everything. He was always the first person I would call to tell about our sports. He loved watching all of us and coaching us from the stands or sidelines. We will forever live in your legacy. Love you Pop-pop. Rest easy and watch over all of us. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter Bella Florence Quirk, 2 sister, Catherine Quirk and Mary Catherine Quirk; a brother Francis “Frank” Quirk. Surviving are his wife of 62 years Frances Monahan Quirk; a son Joseph F. Quirk, Sr., and his wife Deborah; Linda Stock and her husband Robert, all of Pottsville; 7 grandchildren, Joseph F. Quirk, Jr., Michael, Frank, and Christopher Quirk, Jennifer Brindle, Nicole Kutsmeda, Kevin Stock; 6 great-grandchildren, Mikey, Isaiah and Rebekah Quirk, Liam Kutsmeda, Braelynn Kutsmeda , Olivia Brindle . 2 brothers, Deacon John E. Quirk, Pottsville; Robert Quirk, MD; a sister, Alice Sheerer, Phoenix, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11AM from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9AM-10:45AM Friday at the church.
