Margaret A. “Peggy” Eckley, 81 of Pottsville, died Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown
She was born July 22, 1942, in Pottsville a daughter of the late William and Helen Hoban Dodds.
She was a 1960 graduate of Nativity BVM High School and Empire Beauty School.
Prior to retiring she was owner of a Gift Basket business called “My Goodness” She also worked as a teacher’s aide at the Schuylkill IU 29 and was a salesclerk at Bee Gees Department Store.
Peggy was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, and the former Good Samaritan Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband Henry J. Eckley, to whom she married on March 4, 1961, at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, St. Clair; 3 sons, Christopher Eckley, Hummelstown, Brian Eckley and his wife Sue, Pottsville; Stephen Eckley, Middleport; 2 grandchildren, Matthew Eckley, Denver, CO; Jayne Eckley, New York, NY; 2 sisters, Theresa LaPlaca and her husband Al, Pottsville; Cathy Baldigo and her husband John, Pottsville; sister-in-law, Cornelia "Cookie" Eckley, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.
Peggy’s had an immense religious devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary, and immensely devoted to her family and friends and was proud of the wonderful careers of her grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill, East Norwegian and the Coronary Care and ICU staff at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM Friday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9AM until the time of mass at the church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Peggy be made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901, or Nativity Preservation Fund 1 Lawtons Hill, Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.
