Olive J. Semerod, R.N., 92 of Pottsville, died Tuesday at home.
She was born October 30, 1930, in Bloomsburg a daughter of the late Harry and Dorothy Rowe Trump.
She was a 1948 graduate of Mount Carmel High School and a graduate of Temple University School of Nursing.
Prior to retiring, she worked as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, Philadelphia, the former Allentown General Hospital and the former Shamokin General State Hospital. She was also co-owner for many years of the Yarn Barn in Pottsville, a place where women to gather meet, talk and receive lessons in needle craft.
Olive was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Pottsville.
Olive was a devoted friend. If you were her friend, you had someone who was always there for you. She was a dedicated bridge and Mah Jonng player, loving all card games. She was a vociferous reader with her kindle always at her side. She was a skilled expert needle crafter, making baby blankets for all new family arrivals. Most importantly she was the matriarch to a large family taking delight in everyone's accomplishments and providing a shoulder to cry on for all sad events. She remembered everyone's birthday and anniversary and was always the first to send a card and greetings. She was a shining example of how to lead one's life, providing love, guidance and relished that position. To summarize, her life "To know her was to love her."
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Semerod, 2002; an infant son, Kent D. Semerod;1956; a son, Scott W. Semerod, 2002; a grandson, Tyler A. Clark, 2010; a sister, Nancy Shields, 2020; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia M. Semerod, 2020;
Surviving are two sons, Keith D. Semerod and his wife Mary Beth, Mechanicsville; David E. Semerod, Minersville; a daughter Suzanne J. Clark and her husband Carl E., II, West Chester; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, all who loved their grandma and gigi; a daughter in law Bobbi J. Semerod, Pottsville;
Service of Remembrance will be held 11AM Monday at the James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, with Pastor James R. Fidler officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9AM until the time of services. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Olive be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, 316 W. Market St., Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will follow in Salem Rough and Ready Cemetery, Klingerstown.
