When it comes to honoring the Veterans of the Pottsville Area, there is no better funeral home to plan the loss of a Veteran than a funeral home founded by a veteran and specializes in veteran's funerals. We at the James E. Humphrey Funeral Home pride ourselves on helping families of veteran's plan services that are fitting for those who have served our country. We understand the sacrifice every person makes when they serve in the military, and we work extremely hard to honor that sacrifice by creating exceptional funerals for veterans in Pottsville and Schuylkill County. Funeral Home founder Jim Humphrey was a veteran having served his country during Vietnam, as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 129 and the American Legion Post # 0945, Jim understood their needs. At the James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, we do all we can to recognize, honor, and pay the utmost respect to those who have served our country. Below is what we do to honor our veterans and all that we provide at our funeral home.
Our founder, James E. Humphrey, served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1969-1972. Over the years Jim has shown support by being a member of the American Legion Post #38 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #129. Today, we continue the support started by Jim, by offering veterans a 10% discount on pre-paid or at-need casket selected and a $200 discount on all veteran cremation services. Veterans will also receive a free Flag Case and free personalized decals. Contact us today to get started.
For many families of veterans, we will create a funeral that is integrated with the service life of the deceased. Uniforms, medals, relics, photos and videos are often important parts of the visitation/viewing. Veteran funerals can involve military pall bearers in and out of a funeral home or place of worship and at the cemetery, depending on the status of a veteran. Gravesides for veterans have involved active-duty and retired service men and women, or local joint veterans which include a 21 gun salutes and military bugle calls (Taps) in military honor.
When transporting a known veteran from their place of death, two military emblems will be placed on each side of the removal van identifying the veterans branch of service.
The moment a veteran is in our care the flag of the veterans branch of services will fly at our funeral home, along with the Stars and Stripes, until the day after a veterans funeral services.
The day of service the honor involves 2 American flags being displayed on the front of the hearse, along with military emblems on each side of the hearse identifying the veterans branch of service. This honor will also be given when transporting a veteran from the funeral home to the church if the family selects an evening or morning viewing at their church.
The day of schedule services our funeral home staff will wear a lapel pin with the branch of service that the veteran served with.
The final honor takes place at the cemetery where American flags form a walkway from the roadside to the gravesite for the pallbearers carrying the casket, or urn, to pass through. Honoring those who gave is our privilege.
After the service families will receive the Presidential Memorial Certificate, which acknowledges the service the veteran has made to our country and is signed by the President of the United States. This certificate is a treasured keep sake for many families.
